Newer homes are unlikely to have asbestos products in them. However many homes built from 1920 to 1970 may contain some products. Here are some things to look for:

- Steam Pipes, Boilers, and Furnace Ducts
- Soundproofing or Decorative Material
- Patching and Joint Compounds
- Textured Paint
- Artificial Ashes and Embers
- Fireproof Gloves, Stove-Top Pads
- Ironing Board Covers, Hairdryers
- Clutch Facings and Gaskets
- Automobile Brake Pads and Linings
