Non-small cell lung cancer makes up the remaining 80% of lung cancers. There are three sub-types to NSCLC. These sub-types differ in cell size, shape, and chemical make-up.
Squamous cell carcinoma
25%-30% of all lung cancers are squamous cell carcinoma. They are correlated with a history of smoking and tend to be found near the bronchus in the center of the lungs.
Adenocarcinoma
Adenocarcinoma makes up for 40% of lung cancers and is usually found in the outer region of the lung. Those with one type of adenocarcinoma, known as bronchioloalveolar carcinoma (also known as bronchioalveolar carcinoma or bronchoalvealoar carcinoma), tend to have a better prognosis than those with other types of lung cancer.
