The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulates standards of safety and health hazards in the workplace. When asbestos was recognized as a health hazard OSHA adopted standards that cover workers exposed to asbestos as part of their jobs. Current OSHA standards require employers to provide education and training for employees who are exposed to asbestos. Worksites that are not regulated by OSHA standard are covered by The Environmental Protection Agency that extends OSHA regulations to those workplaces not regulated directly by OSHA. Schools are considered workplaces and are regulated by these standards. A copy of the asbestos management plan is required to be available at each site regulated.
