Treatment of mesothelioma is decided case by case. Treatment depends on where the cancer is located in the body, if and how far it has spread, and the patient's age and general health.
Standard treatment may be considered because of its effectiveness in patients in past studies. However, not all patients are helped with standard therapy and some standard treatments may have more side effects than are desired. In some cases a mesothelioma patients may decide to participate in a clinical trial of a new drug or treatment. Clinical trials are designed to find better ways to treat patients and are based on the most up-to-date information. Clinical trials for the treatment of mesothelioma are ongoing in various parts of the country.
